I have just changed the name of my music-player gadget (located right below my profile section) from Listen to Silita Here! to Pre-Colonial "Black" Music. Actually, I have changed the gadget name only. The music remains the same (Libavela by Silita).
(I think that those visitors who tried to play the music have never been successful. A couple of days ago, I tried to repair the problem, so I hope it will work now.)
As almost always, I had a hard time trying to find a name that would best fit the gadget (and its content). I ended up coming up with the current one. Needless to say, it is not precise although I feel it is better than the previous name.
Pre-colonial black music are my favorite ones. Nowadays, we scarcely listen to or buy them - I think. Rather, people (including Africans themselves) love jazz, blues, reggae, rock, samba, mambo, rumba, etc. I love them too... However, I think there is something interesting about it. Those types of music are said to be of African origin. (And I routinely hear this when it comes to search for the contribution of people of African descent in the American Society). What is interesting is that, whilst the creators of those types of music looked to Africa for inspiration, many African musicians look at them as a reference. They ignore Africa that is very close to them. Great African musicians play jazz, blues, rumba, and all those much-publicized music. Only a few play pre-colonial music - which is still alive (fortunately) and should be elevated.
While writing this, I was listening to the album "Ziva Tako" by Silita

Oh! The situation's got worse. But, as soon as possible, I'll to repair.
ReplyDeleteFinally, the music's playing. The URL provided by the hosting site wasn't correct. Enjoy it!
